Development of components and systems on hydrocarbon refrigerants

We have been actively involved in the development of training packages covering the safe handling and application of hydrocarbon (HC) refrigerants; in the development of components and systems for HCs; and in advising on the safe charging of HC systems in manufacturing facilities worldwide.

The application of HCs in most systems results in improved efficiency. This can be quantified through testing at our facility.

A typical programme for the development of HC systems includes:

  • Checking the application to ensure the practical limit will not be exceeded (if applicable).
    This is particularly important for DX air conditioning and cold room applications;

  • Checking electrical devices to ensure they can be safely used, or specifying appropriate electrics or methods of sealing electrical devices;

  • Recommending which hydrocarbon refrigerants is most suitable for the application;

  • Optimising the system for HCs, e.g. checking capillary tube length and charge amount. Tests can be carried out at our premises to check capacity and efficiency of different systems;

  • Checking the manufacturing facility where HCs will be charged and recommending changes to minimise hazards;

  • Training manufacturing staff on site with the equipment they will be using and in the area they will be working.
